A Thyroid Function Test (TFT), also called a Thyroid Profile, is a set of blood tests used to measure how well your thyroid is working. The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your neck, and it plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism, energy production, and overall growth and development by producing thyroid hormones.

The typical components of a Thyroid Profile or TFT include:

TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone):

• This is often the primary screening test for thyroid function. It measures how much TSH is in your blood. The pituitary gland produces TSH to stimulate the thyroid to make thyroid hormones (T3 and T4). If your TSH levels are high, it can indicate that your thyroid is underactive (hypothyroidism), and if it’s low, it might suggest an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism).
