A urine culture is considered positive if a single type of bacteria grows in significant quantities, typically exceeding 100,000 colony-forming units (CFU) per milliliter.
Pregnant women, even without symptoms, may also undergo screening for bacteria in their urine. Untreated infections during pregnancy can pose risks to both the mother's and fetus' health, potentially affecting fetal development if left unaddressed.
