The ANA (Antinuclear Antibody) test is commonly used to screen for autoimmune disorders and is a key test in diagnosing systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), often in combination with other tests like erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) or C-reactive protein (CRP). A positive ANA test may indicate an autoimmune condition, but it is not definitive on its own, and additional testing is usually required to confirm a diagnosis. It's important to note that ANA can also be positive in healthy individuals, particularly as people age, leading to false-positive results. This test is sometimes referred to as the ANA panel.
