The Hs-CRP (High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein) test is a blood test used to measure the levels of C-reactive protein in the blood at very low (high-sensitivity) levels. This test is specifically designed to assess the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and monitor inflammation in the body. While CRP is a general marker for inflammation, Hs-CRP is more sensitive and can detect low levels of this protein, which are linked to low-grade inflammation in the arteries, a condition that may lead to atherosclerosis and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
