Cardiolipin Antibody (Anti-Cardiolipin, aCL) is often found in individuals with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Elevated aCL levels are strongly associated with an increased risk of both venous and arterial thrombosis (blood clots), as well as thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) and recurrent fetal loss. While these conditions are common in SLE patients, elevated aCL can also be seen in other autoimmune disorders. The clinical significance of aCL levels is still not fully established, and elevated results should not be interpreted in isolation. They must be considered alongside the patient’s complete medical history, clinical presentation, and other diagnostic tests to make an accurate diagnosis.
